Dili, November 27, 2023 -- The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Timor-Leste handed over essential technology equipment to the Comoro Model Youth Center to empower youth through education and skills development.

During a ceremony held on November 21 at Comoro Community Youth Center (CCYC) in Dili, UNFPA Timor-Leste handed over computers, printers, LCD projector, and router as part of UNFPA Timor-Leste's ongoing commitment to fostering skills for life and work of the Timorese youth.

Expressing his gratitude on behalf of the Model Youth Center, Mr. Zito Isidoro Freitas, the Executive Director, CCYC, stated that the donation would expand opportunities for youth.

“We are very grateful to UNFPA for this generous donation, which will make a significant impact on the opportunities available to the youth at the Model Youth Center. The equipment will facilitate access to information to support the youth to access information on employment opportunities.

“We would also like to thank UNFPA for their support in rehabilitating the Model Youth Center and facilitating the launch of "Kolega" ChatBot, an innovative solution that simulates interaction via WhatsApp that will provide youths with critical information for accessing training and developing their skills, besides information on job opportunities,” said Mr. Zito Isidoro Freita.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Sports, Arts and Culture (MoYSAC) and various youth organizations in Timor-Leste, UNFPA is committed to creating an environment that nurtures the educational and vocational aspirations of the youth.

“UNFPA is honored to contribute to sustainable development of youth and to the mission of Youth Centers by providing essential technological resources, facilitating the integration of campus-to-career and training-to-placement modalities and building capacity of youth through standardized training modules  in Timor-Leste,” said Puthumai Nazarene, Technical Consultant for Youth and Adolescents.

UNFPA reaffirms its commitment and support to the Government of Timor-Leste in ensuring that the youth are educated, empowered and employable so they can be a demographic dividend for the country, as it seeks to diversify its economy and boost its productivity.
