The United Nations and the Government of Timor-Leste commemorated the Human Rights Day on 4th of December 2013 in a public discussion on "Strengthening Human Rights for Inclusive Development".
In his openning remarks, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Timor-Leste, Mr. Knut Ostby quoted the former Secretary General, Mr. Kofi Anan, as "There could be no security without development, no development without security and no sustaining of either without being rooted in the rule of law and respect for human rights".

A panel consisting of the Minister of Justice, Dr. Dinisio Babo Soares, and representatives from the Provedor of Human Rights and Justice, and the Persons with Disabilities Group answered to questions about human rights in Timor-Leste.
