On the 18th of June 2018, UNFPA conducted an Intra-partum and Immediate Post-partum care training in collaboration with the National Health Institute (INS) of the Ministry of Health (MoH), World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), Guido Valdares National Hospital Timor-Leste, John Snow International (JSI), and Health Alliance International (HAI).
The training provided midwives and doctors with Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (EMONC) training including the treatment of mothers. The training included 11 participants, 9 midwives and 2 doctors who developed and acquired the knowledge and skills to assist in the delivery and post-delivery of the baby and the care of the mother.
The training was completed on the 17th of July 2018. The training on the medical procedures has provided the doctors and midwives from various municipalities with crucial lifesaving knowledge and skills, including Vacuum extraction, newborn delivery, and the management of shoulder dystocia.
UNFPA is committed to support the health sector in Timor-Leste through the procurement and development of the Intra-partum and Immediate post-partum care training, and the continued support of the monitoring and evaluation of trainings provided to midwives and doctors in Timor-Leste.
