On Friday 8th June 2012, 32 participants from two batches finished a five day training course in Logistics Management Information Systems (LMIS). With funding from AusAID and executed by UNFPA alongside a USAID funded, NGO, Hadiak, the training programme took place in the mountainous retreat of Dare from 28th May to 01 June and 4th June until 8thJune.

The first training course was facilitated by Mr. Alex Tran in English through an interpreter and the second batch was facilitated by the Trainers trained during the first batch but still under the tutelage of Mr. Tran.Despite the language barrier, Mr. Tran praised the participants for their enthusiasm and dedication. The participants came from a wide spectrum of Government Ministries and Institutions, implementing partners and some UNFPA staff. The scope of the training included theoretical and practical parts with hands on computer sessions. The training envisions provision of strengthened technical support in logistics management, forecasting, monitoring and reporting in all health facility level. The previous LMIS reporting tool and manual were updated and currently LMIS is well embedded in the HMIS report.

The main purpose in providing this training is to ‘train the trainers’ as those who graduated from this course will become trainers and train their colleagues ensuring continuity of skills transfer up to the grassroot level. The course will equip them with the skills and knowledge to train other people in their departments and in the districts, sub districts and health posts. Knowledge and information will be shared increasing the ability and skills of the Timorese people.

The graduation ceremony was attended by the Director of Cooperation the Institute of Health, Raimundo Da Costa Neves. In his speech the director commends the success of this training course and he was delighted to be presenting the graduating students with their certificates (see attached photos). He also highlighted the fact that the training delivered will allow the government to be more transparent and open to the public in their financial affairs. The director praises the work of the UNFPA and partner agencies in organizing and financing this training and he asks for more training to be delivered as it will aid the Institute of Health in achieving their objectives outlined in their Annual Action Plan.
