Bruce Campbell

Bruce Campbell, has recently joined UNFPA as Representative a.i. for Timor Leste. Prior to this position, Bruce’s long public health career began in the humanitarian sector where he worked for the International Rescue Committee supporting Palestinian and Afghan refugees in Lebanon and Pakistan.

Bruce Campbell, has recently joined UNFPA as Representative a.i. for Timor Leste. Prior to this position, Bruce’s long public health career began in the humanitarian sector where he worked for the International Rescue Committee supporting Palestinian and Afghan refugees in Lebanon and Pakistan.

He then worked as a social scientist and chief technical advisor for the Netherlands Royal Tropical Institute where he supported integration and nation-wide scaling up of SRHR programming while based in the Ministries of Health in Ghana as well as Nepal between 1987 and 2000. Thereafter, Bruce went on to serve as UNFPA Representative in Eritrea, Zimbabwe and Viet Nam (2000 - 2012) before being appointed as Director of the Technical Division and UNFPA’s corporate lead on innovation (2013 - 2016). Following his time in HQ, he returned to the field as Director of the Pacific Sub-Regional office (PSRO) after which he supported the follow-up to the Nairobi Conference and ICPD@25.

Since retiring from UNFPA, he has remained active as a consultant and most recently completed an assignment as Pathfinder International’s senior global advisor for health system strengthening and sustainability. Bruce’s academic background includes a Ph.D. from the Medical School at the University of Amsterdam, an MPA from the business school at Kent State University, and an MPH from Harvard University.
