Timor-Leste's third national census commenced Saturday night and Sunday morning H.E., Dr. Rui Maria Araujo has been was visited at his residence in Bidau by enumerators and staff from the General Directorate of Statistic (GDS). After providing the information to the enumerators, he called on all residence of Timor-Leste to participate in the Census and had the following message for the Nation. "I would like to inform to all people that the Census 2015 has started. Today, 12 July 2015, my family has been counted. Don't be surprised, don't be afraid to provide all information that enumerators asked because this Census will provide sufficient accurate information that will help government and other institutions to prepare better prepare plans for our country's development."

An accurate count of Timor-Leste's population forms the basis for many important but often overlooked political, economic, and social decisions that are made that end up affecting citizens daily lives. The census helps with the equitable distribution of public funds-educational programs, healthcare, law enforcement and roads are allocated in part based on population.

A helpline call center that functions from 6am to 11pm is already in place, dedicated to provide any clarification people need regarding the questions, offer other assistance related to the process and receive feedback from each enumeration area. Anyone can reach them through:
